For avid poker players, September means one thing: preparations for the U.S. Championship of Online Poker, or USCOOP for short. At this year’s USCOOP, players in any of the PokerStars markets may compete for a share of $4.5 million in guaranteed cash prizes.
On September 9, the US SCOOP began, and on September 26, it came to a close. The different championship events on the program guaranteed close to $2.2 million in cash prizes out of a total guarantee of $4.5 million. Over sixty poker tournaments were scheduled, but only twenty were considered championships. PokerStars stated this morning on Twitter that starting January 1, players from both Michigan and New Jersey would be able to participate in the same games. At that moment, liquidity pooling will become fully operational.
PokerStars players in Michigan and New Jersey states will benefit from a wider player pool and increased payouts. In a tweet that was posted a few weeks ago, PokerStarsUSA put it more succinctly: Only in Delaware, Michigan, Nevada, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania (among others) may U.S. players play online poker. Additionally, it is legal in Connecticut and West Virginia, although legitimate providers currently need to be in those locations.

MSIGA Made It Possible
The number of PokerStars players in Michigan and New Jersey is expected to exceed that of the existing WSOP multi-state alternatives. Online casino players in Delaware, Nevada, and New Jersey contribute to WSOP’s overall traffic volume. Even though the World Series of Poker (WSOP) is live in Michigan, PokerStars was the first site to take advantage of the state’s April 6 membership in the Multi-State Internet Gaming Agreement (MSIGA).
On September 15, 2018’s interpretation of the Wire Act was finalized, relieving operators of one less thing to worry about. Before that day, online casinos and poker sites in the United States were afraid to send player information over state lines for fear of legal repercussions. This fear was alleviated when a Rhode Island court ruled in favor of the sector.
There’s New Jersey and Michigan. Players on PokerStars Are Thrilled. Several PokerStars users commented on the news through Twitter today. About the January 1st unified online poker player pool, @PokerStarsUSA tweeted:
At 6, $100 buy-in, $100,000 guaranteed. At 6:30, $10 buy-in with a $50,000 guaranteed prize pool. Some gamers’ first reactions expressed dismay that the rule change would only apply to them if they were located in Nevada or Pennsylvania. Neither Nevada nor Pennsylvania are not now MSIGA-enabled. Hence PokerStars is not available in those states.
Registration for the tournament begins on Tuesday
There’s New Jersey and Michigan. Tournaments on PokerStars on New Year’s Day may be entered for commencing on Tuesday. To top it all off, the European Poker Tour will be held in London this year for the first time in eight years. On October 18, the European Poker Tour will visit London. London hosted the EPT’s last stop in 2014. London has been a host of the tour since it began in 2004 when it was first announced.
